Guided Tours
There's nothing like a local to show you around a place and there are a number of tour operators in Kalbarri ready to do just that. Kalbarri Coach Tours offer a wide range of tours for you to get the best out of your trip to Kalbarri.
If it's your first visit here, take their Town Explorer tour to familiarise yourself with the town. For the more adventurous, the coastal adventure tour will take you to areas out of reach of the average tourist.
 
Walking and Hiking
The scenery around Kalbarri is perfect to explore by foot. Whether you choose to explore the coastal regions, the National Park or along the river, you'll find terrain to suit all levels of hiking skills. A few of the more popular walks are listed below.
MUSHROOM ROCK NATURE TRAIL - This is a leisurely 2 hour return walk. Information is available along the track to explain the botanical and geological features and is perfect during wildflower season.
COASTAL TRAIL - Allow 3 to 5 hours to make this one-way 8 km hike. Arrange to be dropped off at Eagle Gorge and picked up at Natural Bridge. Enjoy the magnificent seascapes from the heights of the cliffs.
AROUND THE LOOP - This 6 hour walk begins and ends at Nature's Window at the Loop. This trail is not marked but the easiest route is as follows. From Nature's Window, walk east along the cliff top to the first river bend, then down along the ledges and flood plain at water level to return to Nature's Window, keeping the river to your right at all times.
 
Abseiling
Experience the thrills of abseiling in the exciting Z-Bend Gorge amongst Kalbarri's famous river gorges with the team at Kalbarri Abseil.
No experience is necessary for thrill seekers taking on this sheltered site with top-class coaching from experienced and trained instructors. In your session you will get five opportunities to descend the rock face which includes two forward run-downs to get the adrenalin pumping.
An abseil adventure will not only give you have the opportunity to experience this extreme sport that is booming in popularity but you will also get to visit the famous "Nature's Window" at the Loop for a photo opportunity and to learn some of the great history of the area.
 
Boat Hire
Explore the lower reaches of tranquil Murchison River or enjoy the thrill of Surf-cats, Windsurfers, Canoes, Motor Boats, Paddle Boats or Row Boats on the wide expanse of the river opposite Kalbarri. Kalbarri boat hire has craft suitable for family, tour or school group bookings.
For a fun day out in the ocean, fishing or diving, Murchison Boat Hire has a 6 metre aluminium half cabin runabout complete with a 135hp motor and all safety gear including children's life jackets. The craft is licensed for 6 persons with quality rods and reel hire available.
 
River Cruises
Cruise the Murchison River onboard the comfortable and very quiet vessel, Jacon operated by Murchison River Cruises. All cruise includes a sausage sizzle, fresh cold fruit, complementary tea or coffee and ice cold water.
The Kalbarri River Queen, with experienced skipper, Tim Woodcock at the helm also operates a range of river cruises. Tim provides a commentary about the local wildlife, history and points of interest. You can explore the ancient Murchison River with morning or afternoon tea provided or beer, wines and spirits available from the licensed bar on board. Daily departure times are displayed at the Kalbarri Visitor Centre.
 
Fishing
Kalbarri is situated in the middle of the Leeuwin current which flows along the Western Australian coastline. This rich stream brings with it everything that fish need to survive, creating the ideal environment for them to thrive.
Whether you choose a guided fishing charter or prefer to hire a boat and find your own special spot, you can be assured of a fantastic catch. Fish species around Kalbarri include - Snapper, Groper, Coral Trout, Dhufish, Red Emperor, Estuary Cod, Skippy, Mulloway, Tailor, Black Bream, Mackerel, King-fish, Tuna, Marlin and many others.
 
Horse Riding
Enjoy a scenic and relaxed ride down to the Murchison River and view real live kangaroos and the magnificent bird life while returning through the majestic Kalbarri country-side. The duration is around 1 or 2 hours in the saddle plus 45 minutes for ride preparation. The rides are suitable for: beginners to to intermediate with experienced riders welcomed. All rides are fully supervised.
 
Surfing
One of the better known surf spots around Kalbarri is Jakes Point. Situated near Red Bluff and the caravan park, this left hander is renowned for turning it on most of the time.
However; Jakes isn't the only place that you'll find great breaks around Kalbarri. Travel a short distance up the coast in either direction and you'll soon find any number of great surfing locations.
 
Other Water Sports
Along the coast of the Midwest region, all sorts of water sports are becoming increasingly popular. The high coastal winds of the region make windsurfing and kite-boarding especially popular. Just off the coast, the Abrolhos Islands are one of Australia's great unexplored dive sites. The coral formations and reefs of the area are said to rival some of the best in the world and the large number of shipwrecks off Kalbarri make this a divers paradise.
During the wetter months, when much more water is flowing down the Murchison river, Kalbarri Adventure Tours offer white water rafting packages. During the drier months, you can take a leisurely paddle along the river by canoe.
 
Flora and Fauna
Situated right in the middle of a National Park, Kalbarri is an ideal holiday destination for nature lovers. During wildflower season from June till November, the surrounding bush erupts into carpets of colour. During this time, many of the local tourist operators offer dedicated wildflower tours and will take you to some of the more spectacular areas.
Wildflower enthusiast can expect to find vivid gold and orange banksias, grevilleas in white, yellow and red, green and red kangaroo paws, feather-flowers in many coloured shades, smokebushes, starflowers and many more.
You will also find a diverse range of wildlife in and around Kalbarri as well as daily Pelican feeding on the foreshore and the huge range of bird life on display in the Rainbow jungle parrot breeding centre. For the avid wildlife observer, you can expect to see kangaroos, emus, wallabies, dolphins, whales and much more of the native Australian fauna on your visit.
 
From The Air

They can also fly you over some of the inaccessible regions of the Kalbarri National park, so you will be able to view scenery not seen by many other people.
